Set Up An E-Subscription

Follow the instructions below whether you’re setting up a (no charge) e- subscription for you and your staff, or setting up a (paid) e-subscription for a customer.

  • Your newspaper has complete control over setting up the types of e- subscriptions you’ll offer customers (one-month, three-month, twelve-month, etc.) and your e-subscription rates.
  • Payment for an e-subscription cannot be made through the website. Customers must contact your paper direct for account set-up and payment. Whatever payment method you currently use (checks, credit cards) for print subscriptions should be used for e-subscriptions as well.
  1. Log on to the website and type in your newspapers’ limited-access user name and password. This will take you to the “Media Portal/Admin Area.”
  2. Click on “SUBSCRIPTIONS” located in the blue bar.
  3. To set up a NEW e-subscription, click on “ADD NEW RECIPIENT” (in blue).
  4. Add customer information (all fields shown in red must be completed).
  5. In the USER NAME and PASSWORD fields: USER NAME can be anything that the customer will easily remember. Their PASSWORD is automatically computer-assigned, and appears automatically in the “PASSWORD” field. IT’S IMPORTANT that you give this password to the customer BEFORE YOU CLICK ‘SUBMIT,” since you cannot access it again (although it remains in the system) once you click “submit.” Once customer has their password, click “SUBMIT.
  6. If you forget to write down the customer PASSWORD before you click “submit,” you’ll need to assign them another computer-generated password. From the SEARCH RECIPIENT screen, type in the customer’s first and last name in the blank field and click “SUBMIT”. Their name will appear and to the right, click on “EDIT.” Click on “Edit Recipient” (on the blue bar). This takes you back to their customer account information screen. At the bottom of the screen, click on “RESET PASSWORD.” A new computer-generated password will appear in the field. WRITE DOWN the new password, give it to the customer, and then click “SUBMIT.Click on “LOG OUT” (on the blue bar) to leave the “ADMIN” area and return to home page.
  7. Next you’ll set up the customers’ e–subscription start and end dates. To do this, type the customers’ first and last name (as typed on the preceding account screen) in the blank “recipient” field and click ‘SUBMIT.”
  8. The customer’s name will appear with “EDIT” to the right of their name. Click on ‘EDIT.”
  9. Click on “SUBSCRIPTION ENABLED” box to activate their e-subscription. (Check mark will appear in box). Enter customer’s e-subscription START and END dates. (Click on CALENDAR box and select start date, click on CALENDAR box and select end date). Click ‘SUBMIT.” The e-subscription set-up is now complete and the e-subscriber can access the site immediately (based on start date) on the “Nebraska News Link” home page by entering their login user name and password.
  10. DON’T FORGET to take their payment!

The system DOES NOT send out automatic email “renewal” reminders to your e-subscribers. If an e-subscriber does not contact your paper to renew, and pay for, an e-subscription renewal, their website login access will automatically be denied on their e-subscription end date. You’ll need to set up your own process for sending out customer (email or bill stuffer) reminders. (SEE “Change/Renew An E-Subscription” and “Subscription Report” for more information).

IF THERE ARE SURROUNDING NEWSPAPERS IN YOUR AREA THAT YOU REGULARLY REFER TO, you’re encouraged to contact the paper(s) and request that you swap comp e-subscriptions with them so you can access each other’s scanned pages at no charge. HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

YOUR e-subscription to THEIR paper:

1. Contact the paper. From the Nebraska News Link home page, they will login to the administrative area (with their limited-access user name and password).

2. They click on “subscriptions” in the blue bar

3. If you already have an e-subscription set up for your newspaper, your account information is already in the system, so it doesn’t need to be entered again. They type in your (first and last name) in the blank field and click “submit.” When your name appears (on their computer screen), they click “edit” to the right of your name, which takes them to their subscription start/end date fields. They put a checkmark in the “subscription enabled” box, select the appropriate start/end dates using the “show calendar” box and click “submit.”

4. YOUR e-subscription to THEIR newspaper is now set up. You can now login to view their scanned pages using your same (individual) user name/password that you use to access your own e-subscription. (By only entering account information one time in system, this allows the e-subscriber to login to all of their e-subscriptions using just their one (individual) user name and password.

THEIR e-subscription to YOUR paper:

1. If a newspaper contacts you for a comp e-subscription. You login to the administrative area with your limited-access user name and password. Click on “subscriptions” in the blue bar.

2. Type their first and last name in the blank field and click “submit.” (To see if their account information is already in the system). If their account information is in the system, their name will appear and you’ll click “edit” to the right of their name. Put a checkmark in the “subscription enabled” box, and select the appropriate start/end dates using the “show calendar” boxes. Then click “submit.”

If there is NO ACCOUNT INFORMATION for them in the system: Click on “add new recipient” (to the right of SEARCH RECIPIENT). Enter their account information, including a user name, which they can determine. The computer assigns them a password, which automatically appears in the password field. GIVE THEM THEIR PASSWORD, then click “submit.”  THEIR e-subscription to YOUR newspaper is now set up. They can use this (individual) user name and password to login and access their e-subscriptions.
