Cohen Names Rural Nebraska Advisors to Independent Campaign in Nebraska’s 3rd District

LEMOYNE, Neb. — Mark Cohen, the former Air Force judge advocate running as an independent for the U.S. House in Nebraska’s 3rd District, today announced a slate of advisors who have signed on to his campaign. The advisors bring experience across agriculture, labor, rural healthcare, economic development, education, and other issues central to the sprawling Third District.

“I’m honored that these Nebraskans have agreed to lend their time and expertise to this campaign,” Cohen said. “Each of them has spent years serving rural Nebraska, and their guidance will help make sure this campaign stays focused on the needs of people in Nebraska’s Third District — not on the desires of a political party.”

Jerry Kuenning, a former president of Nebraska Cattlemen, has agreed to advise Cohen on agricultural matters.

Jeff Cooley, president of the Midwest Nebraska Central Labor Council, has agreed to serve as an advisor on labor and railroad safety issues.

Rick Medema of Valentine will advise Cohen on economic and rural development. Medema was the city manager for the City of Valentine and served on the Nebraska Rural Development Commission.

Dennis Miller of Oshkosh will advise Cohen on rural healthcare. Miller is the chairperson of Garden County Health Services.

Melanie Knight of Clay Center will advise Cohen on education. Knight is a former candidate for the Nebraska legislature with a background in elementary, early childhood, and special education.

Tom Beytien of Farnam will advise Cohen on faith issues. A former Army officer with a ranching background, Beytien has done missionary work.

Cohen, a former Air Force judge advocate who earned an advanced degree in agricultural law, lives in Lemoyne and teaches karate in Ogallala. He is running as an independent because he believes both parties have failed rural Nebraska.
